Doing more with less

The Swiss Federal Ministry of Health (BAG) negotiates financial and value-based drug pricing agreements with drug manufacturers. The health insurance companies are responsible for the management and tracking of these agreements with the manufacturers and are exposed to the ever-increasing complexity and number of agreements. As of July 2022, these agreements spanned across 33 manufacturers and about 90 drugs in more than 100 indications. Overall, this amounts to more than 140 drug pricing agreements. The overall administrative effort for Swiss health insurance companies to manage all drug pricing agreements has been estimated at CHF 32M per year by the Swiss Federal Ministry of Health.
